Creating a Claude Desktop Buddy With Clawd GIFs

Immediately after watching How the engineer behind Claude Cowork actually uses Claude | Felix Rieseberg (Anthropic), the tinkery part of my brain lit up and I found myself ordering a twenty-dollar M5StickC PLUS.

The Claude Desktop Buddy GitHub repo code has everything you need to run the basic ASCII pets (18 variations!) and a GIF-pets example starring the Bufo froge.

But, did I want ASCII pets? No. Bufo GIFs? No. I wanted Clawd GIFs. Animations of Claude’s mascot.

Following the release of Fable in early June, I thought a fun Claude Design + Fable project would be creating a virtual version of Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies Deck, a set of lateral thinking dilemmas I’ve long admired.

I got started shortly before our brilliantly boneheaded government made the questionable move of taking away our access to Fable. So, let’s pause for hamstrings.

Anyway, I was more interested in initial output than a process of refinement, and what follows is all the former and none of the latter. A documentation of the process, if you will.

Aren’t all designers moved by the display of time? A functional object with design potential that provides real-time feedback. What more could you ask for?

When I started coding with ai, I built a lot of clocks in different styles as a repeatable excercise to help me learn the process.

I didn’t spend too much time on any of them, but I was reasonably happy with the way this slide clock turned out on desktop (sadly, not mobile-friendly).
